It is native to the Amazon rainforest. While this extract isn’t widely used in skin care products at the time of this writing, research suggests that it does have some potential benefits. As is the case with nearly every plant extract, it contains antioxidant compounds that help fight off pro-aging oxidative stress. Some studies indicate Calycophyllum spruceanum bark extract has anti-inflammatory properties as well. Even better, there’s no indication thus far that this extract causes sensitization for skin, making it a good option to consider in anti-aging skin care products. Use levels of this plant extract haven’t been officially established, but it’s generally supplied in an alcohol or glycerin base, and in either format the combination is used in amounts of 0.5–2%.
