Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil description

_Carthamus tinctorius_ (safflower) seed oil is more commonly known as safflower oil, or safflower seed oil. Safflower is one of the oldest grown crops in the world, with its cultivation dating back to ancient times. In addition to its use as a cooking oil, safflower oil is widely used in cosmetics, and for good reason. This non-volatile plant oil is rich in free radical-scavenging antioxidants, including a high amount of vitamin E. It’s also high in moisturizing linoleic acid, a fatty acid that also helps normalize sebaceous glands, the glands responsible for producing skin’s natural oil (sebum). Studies also demonstrate that safflower oil has skin soothing properties that improve the look of redness and irritation. The independent Cosmetic Ingredient Review has ruled safflower seed oil safe in its current usage in cosmetics, where even in amounts between 3-5% the review found it was not irritating on skin. In its raw form, _Carthamus tinctorius_ (safflower) seed oil has a light yellow color.
