Its role in skin care and other personal care products is to serve as both an emollient and a humectant to enhance skin moisturization (ability to stay supple) and hydration (ability to retain water). It can also function as a solvent. Although independent studies have yet to be conducted, suppliers of glycereth-7 trimethyl ether highlight its remarkable ability to impart a silky, emollient touch to the skin, leaving a subtly dry finish. Glycereth-7 trimethyl ether’s impressive stability across a wide pH spectrum is touted as particularly advantageous in formulations containing salicylic acid (BHA), enhancing overall formulary compatibility. Additionally, in carbomer-based gels, it effectively mitigates tackiness, contributing to a more pleasant sensory experience. In its raw material state, glycereth-7 trimethyl ether presents as a transparent, light-yellow liquid. Suggested use level of this ingredient is 5–6%.
